Ji-Yeon Yuh
Ji-Yeon Yuh came to America at age 6 with her mother joining her father who was finishing his doctorate in Chicago. Ji-Yeon recalls the lessons she learned from her mother growing up, as she taught her about the disadvantaged reality of being an Asian immigrant and how that affected her later in life.
Dr. Yuh went on to pursue journalism and as an editorial writer, covered several stories about the Asian American immigrant communities in New York. With her interests in the immigrant community growing, she eventually entered graduate school studying immigration history and became a founding faculty of the first Asian American Studies department at Northwestern University.
