Bernie Cho
Bernie Cho was born in Pittsburgh, PA and recalls moving around a lot before settling in Jamestown, NY, where both his doctor parents had their practice. During junior high, MTV was on the rise and Bernie became fascinated and obsessed. Living in a small town with very few minorities in his neighborhood, he recognized that there were no Asian VJs, music videos, or acts being represented and oftentimes became frustrated by the stereotypes portrayed in mainstream media.
Before beginning his graduate career in Korea, Bernie landed a job teaching English to music label executives by helping them understand incoming trends and terms. Through an unexpected meeting at a party and his passion for music and MTV, he was offered a position to work for Korea’s first music television channel, thus launching his career in the industry. As Bernie goes through various chapters in his life, he hopes to continue to find ways to uplift Asian and Asian American artists and get them the recognition they deserve.
