Grace Kim
Grace Kim was born in Dallas, Texas and was raised in a town a little outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Growing up, she didn’t realize how different it was to be a Korean American until her friends made negative comments about her bring kimbap to share with everyone for her birthday. In that split second, she thought to herself that she didn’t like it anymore. Wanting to find an outlet and explore life further, Grace took on hobbies such as dance and photography to show her creativity.
Since coming to Korea, she followed her mom’s footsteps to understand her own roots. She felt it would be better to understand where she was coming from before figuring out where she would go next. Through her involvement in the Korean American Association for Greater Philadelphia, Grace expresses the importance in the work to implement the Statue of Peace to honor and remember the comfort women who were taken by the Japanese imperial army during World War 2. In this video, Grace shares a poem that comprises all of her thoughts and hopes to find ways to mark our history around the world.
