Grace Yun
Grace Yun is a distinguished production designer renowned for her work on films like Hereditary (2018), First Reformed (2017), and Past Lives (2023), as well as television series such as Ramy and Beef (2023).
She earned her BFA from Parsons School of Design, where she delved into fine art, architecture, and film. Beginning her career in the art department, Grace transitioned to production design, collaborating with acclaimed directors including Ari Aster, Paul Schrader, and Celine Song.
As a Korean American, Grace’s heritage profoundly influences her creative vision. She has expressed a deep connection to stories that explore the Korean American experience, finding personal resonance in projects like Past Lives and Beef. These narratives allow her to authentically portray cultural nuances, while also embracing universal themes that transcend specific backgrounds.
The Hollywood series celebrates 16 stories of Korean Americans working in the entertainment industry, which continues to grow towards more authentically diverse storytelling and leadership. The individuals who were interviewed exemplify what success can look like outside of conventional career paths, destigmatizing the starving artist narrative. The common thread between these actors, screenwriters, producers and designers in the field is the importance of perseverance, even if coming from a place of, what some have called, “delusion.”
The Legacy Project Hollywood series is made possible with financial support from The Korean American Foundation and the YS Kim Foundation, in partnership with The Korean American Leaders in Hollywood.
