John Song
John Song would describe his childhood as atypical. He and his sister were latchkey kids who didn’t follow the traditional path a Korean American kid should take and experienced lots of bumps on the road. At 11 years old, John’s father passed away from cancer; six days later, his 17-year-old sister gave birth.
Instability and lawlessness were John’s lifestyle. After getting high at a party, John found himself on his mother’s front porch looking at the sunrise and hearing a voice asking, “What do you think your father would think of you right now?” Feeling broken and vulnerable, John confronted himself and turned his life around. Today he lives in Atlanta, GA as a freelancer creating and producing digital content. He hopes to see more Asian representation in creative fields and make space for them to feel unafraid to pursue whatever careers they want.
