Alex Myung Wager – Love/Hate Project
“I certainly have a love/hate relationship with being adopted, but I think it’s a little different in the sense that I’ve been given many more opportunities to openly live as a gay male because I was adopted…”
Born in Daegu, South Korea and raised in Albany, New York since he was four months old, Alex Myung Wager struggled with his identity as not only a Korean adoptee but also a gay man. It wasn’t until his trip to Seoul about ten years ago that Myung finally learned of his birth family. Now, after coming out to his adopted family and gaining acceptance from them, Myung grapples with the question of whether or not to reach out to his birth family, unsure of how they might perceive his sexuality or if his half-brother even knows about him.
This is the eighth installment in the Love/Hate series of the Legacy Project, highlighting the Korean Adoptee experience, and the connection to mental health.
