Dona Kim Murphey was born, raised, and still resides in Houston, TX. She experienced prejudice as a woman for the first time when trying to negotiate a deserved higher position. That question of value based on her identity in conjunction with the 2016 election led her further away from an expected path of continued training in academic science.
One of the most impactful conversations she still carries to this day is the conversation she had with her parents when she was 16. Her parents told her the past informs the present self and is allowed the agency to create her own life. As a neurologist and community advocate, Dona hopes people will recognize the power of representation, inclusion, and the full humanity of all communities.
Special thanks to Susan and Michael Jhin for hosting this Legacy Project recording!
