Events Manager
Full-Time Position (40 hours per week)
Location: Within Tri-State area (NY, NJ, CT)
About Us:
Korean American Story is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to capture, preserve and share stories of the Korean American experience. We started in 2010 with our first series, Legacy Project, with the goal of documenting stories of first-generation Korean Americans who immigrated in the 1970s and 1980s. The organization has expanded to capture stories across generations and communities, as well as producing community events like ROAR Story Slam and our annual gala. We value storytelling as a way to humanize our experiences while celebrating the diversity of our community, and we are looking to hire an Events Manager to join our team.
The Role:
The ideal candidate is an energetic, highly organized, detail-oriented person who is a strong communicator, a team player, a multi-tasker, and a flexible problem solver. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Events Manager will be responsible for all events.
Events planning: Organize all phases of events from planning, identifying and initiating contact with speakers/guests, coordinating promotional materials, coordinating communications with all involved parties, setting up, execution and clean up of the event, and gathering event reviews.
We are also looking for someone who will work closely with the team to create new events for the organization, such as an additional ROAR Story Slam event in another city, or community building events around our projects, such as Queer Joy and Letters to My Hometown.
In addition to the staff of Korean American Story, this position will require an ability to work with a team of contractors, volunteers, and community partners. We are a virtual organization so you will be working remotely most of the time, with some in-person meetings, in addition to working some nights and weekends as needed. Events are both virtual and in-person and travel is required for the in-person events. The in-person and/or virtual events and meetings may happen at non-traditional work hours.
Key Responsibilities:
Event Coordination
• Coordinate various aspects of putting on an event.
• Find and work with venues, performers, emcees, participants, community partners, etc.
• Coordinate event programming, including hiring photographers, videographers, contractors, interns, community partners, etc.
• Create and manage the event ticketing process.
• Coordinate post-event evaluation with attendees and the event team.
• Provide graphic designers with design briefs with timelines for events.
• Coordinate creation of promotional and marketing materials for KAS events & programs.
• Work with the team to create and provide assets and content for KAS website, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, etc.
Our current events include:
• Annual Gala
• ROAR Story Slam in NY
• KAS Holiday Party
• Create and manage more events for the organization, such as ROAR Story Slam in other cities, or smaller in-person gatherings to supplement our projects.
Support Executive Director and the other KAS team members.
Qualifications:
• 3+ years of employment experience preferred in these fields:
• Event manager or event planner
• Marketing or promotional communications
• Project management
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Google Workspace (formerly G Suite).
• Familiar with Google, Microsoft, Adobe, Slack and Dropbox products & services.
• Self-motivated person who is comfortable working remotely.
• Must be able to travel to oversee events or coordinate production logistics.
• Able to coordinate multiple overlapping events.
• Must be a quick thinker and a proactive problem solver.
• Must live within a driving distance from NYC to participate in meetings & events.
• Authorized to work in the United States.

• Soft skills such as empathy, active listening, critical thinking.
• Experience with graphic design and good aesthetic sense is a plus.
• Experience in hospitality is a plus.
• Sense of humor & love for good food is a big plus!
Salary: $65,000 – $75,000, commensurate with experience.
