About

“…I was so scared of what her life might be like. I was very upset with Korean people and society for just the whole industry…you’re the only developed country that has exported children.”

Adopted from Seoul as a baby, Nellie Sung, the only person of color at her schools in Minneapolis, never felt like she fit in. It wasn’t until her senior year of college that Sung’s curiosity brought her back to South Korea to study abroad for a semester at Yonsei University, where unfamiliarity with the culture made it tough for her to adjust. Sung ended up volunteering at the orphanage where she was adopted, and then, on a trip back to the U.S., escorted a newly adopted baby — with whom she would heartwarmingly reunite many years later.
