square-kas-fundraiser-largeKoreanAmericanStory.org's Third Annual Benefit "Live Storytelling", took place on Tuesday, May 7th, 2013 at the Central Park Boathouse.  Our special Storytellers Eugenia Kim and Milton Washington, wowed the audience with their captivating storytelling performances.  The evening was filled with inspirational and emotional stories and the power of authentic narrative was evident.  

We thank all the planning committee members: Yoon Lee Perera, John Limb, Julie Young, Mark Lee, John Kwon, Helen Lee, Jayne Hopps, Yuliana Kim-Grant and Theresa Choh-Lee.  We extend our sincere thanks to all attendees, donors and those who participated in the auctions.  A special thanks to our Live Auction donors: Jayne Hopps, Yuliana & Jay Grant, Stephanie Lee and our special surprise guest, Marja Vongerichten, who donated 2 packages of a night out with Marja, which was a huge hit with the auction crowd!   

Thank you Nathan Hale Williams for lending your considerable personality and talent to be our auctioneer once again!  To all the auction winners: Thank you for bidding generously!  Finally to Jayne Hopps, John Limb, Agnes Ahn, Marja Vongerichten, John C. Kim, JW Lee and John Kwon who together donated over $10,000 to enable us to purchase new video recording and editing equipment: Thank you!

We also extend a warm thanks to JuJu Chang, who was gracious enough to make time in her busy schedule to join us and introduced our storytellers!

Every year we work hard to make our benefit unique and fun for our attendees.  This year, we will be celebrating the Art of Storytelling and raising money for The Legacy Project.  Please join us at the beautiful Central Park Boathouse for a fun evening of Live Storytelling!

Here are some details to help you plan.

Date:     Tuesday, May 7th, 2013
Time:     6:30pm - 9:30pm
 
PROGRAM:
6:30pm:    Cocktails & Heavy Hors D'oeuvres with carving, pasta and cheese stations
7:30pm:    Celebrating the Legacy Project
8:00pm:    Live Storytelling performances by Milton Washington and Eugenia Kim 
8:30pm      - Wine reception with passed Hors D’oeuvres, Pasta, cheese and carving stations
                - Live Auction & Silent Auction
                - iPad Mini Raffle 
9:30pm:    Event ends

ABOUT THE FOOD & DRINKS
There will be passed Hors D'oeuvres, as well as a separate cheese, pasta and carving stations.  There will also be 2 open bars serving champagne, red and white wine, beer and top shelf liquor.
 
ABOUT THE LIVE & SILENT AUCTIONS:
akoya1We some great items for the Live Auction and Silent Auction, including an awesome 3BR beach-front condo in Miami and a private vacation home on Martha's Vineyard!  So please bring your checkbooks.  Credit cards will also be accepted, but paying by check will enable us to keep the transaction fees down, allowing more of the funds to be used to benefit KoreanAmericanStory.org.

ABOUT THE RAFFLE
ipadminiWe will be raffling an iPad Mini!  A perfect gift for your children, parents, siblings or friends.
Tickets are $10 for one/$20 for 3/$50 for an arms length 
 
 
DIRECTIONS TO THE CENTRAL PARK BOATHOUSE
The entrance is on 72nd Street and 5th Avenue and the Boathouse is an easy 5 minute stroll through the Park.  However, there will also be a shuttle service along upper 5th Avenue down to 72nd Street and to the Boathouse.  
 
By Car:
There are parking lots near by including MPG Garage on 11 East 73rd Street between Madison and Fifth Avenue (use Bestparking.com and print a coupon for a $20 rate 6pm - 10pm).  Metropolitan Museum of Art on 80th and Fifth Avenue has 24 hour parking and Shuttle can pick up and drop you off there.

By Subway or Bus:
Nearest subway station is the 68th Street stop on the Lexington Avenue line, and there are a number of Fifth Avenue buses which stops on or near Madison and 72nd Street.
